Its oil comes from the peel of a green citrus fruit whose most important growing area is a narrow strip of coast near Reggio Calabria.

Bergamot is a variety of pear.
Myth – at least in perfume. There is a pear of the same name, but the bergamot in the bottle is a citrus fruit (Citrus bergamia) whose oil comes from the peel.

True. The tea is flavoured with the essence of bergamot peel.

Untreated bergamot oil can make skin sensitive to light.
True. The main culprit is bergapten, which is why perfumery mostly uses purified, furocoumarin-free bergamot.

How long does bergamot last in a perfume?
As a top note, bergamot fades relatively quickly and mainly shapes the first few minutes. Its freshness lingers, though, because it paves the way for the heart and base and is linked with woods, musk or amber.
