Fragrance note
Oud Perfumes
An oud perfume is a fragrance centred on oud: the resinous heartwood of the Aquilaria tree – woody, smoky and often slightly leathery. It is one of the most precious raw materials in perfumery, classic with rose and surprisingly soft with vanilla or fruit.

Myth or truth?
Statement 1
Oud forms when a tree falls ill.
True. Only when Aquilaria trees are infected by a fungus do they form the dark, fragrant resin in their heartwood.
Statement 2
Healthy agarwood smells just as intense.
Myth. Healthy heartwood is pale and almost odourless – the scent only develops as resin builds up.
Statement 3
Oud originally comes from Arabia.
Myth. Aquilaria trees are native to South and Southeast Asia; only the word ‘oud’ comes from Arabic.

What is the difference between oud and aoud?
There is none – they are different spellings of the same word. Perfume houses choose their own version, which is why you will find both here.
Is oud a men's fragrance?
No. In the Arab world, women and men have worn oud alike for centuries. With rose or vanilla it feels especially sensual; with leather and smoke, more striking.
How much oud perfume should I apply?
Sparingly. Oud is intense and long-lasting; one or two sprays are usually enough for the whole evening. With every bottle from 30 ml, we include a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance.
