More about Fresh Fragrances
What makes fresh fragrances special?
Freshness usually lives in the top notes: citrus oils evaporate quickly and give way to a heart of flowers or herbs. To make a fresh scent last, good houses build a solid base of woods, musk or amber.
A curiosity: the ancestor of all fresh fragrances, eau de Cologne, was made in 1709 in Cologne by the Italian Johann Maria Farina – and named after his new home town.
Shades of freshness
- Citrus: bergamot, lemon, mandarin – see bergamot perfumes
- Aquatic: sea breeze, salt, minerals
- Green: leaves, grass, fig
- Aromatic: lavender, sage, rosemary
Who are fresh fragrances for?
For people who want to feel well groomed every day without filling a room. Popular examples are Inlé by Memo Paris, Elysium Pour Homme by Roja Parfums and Blue Talisman by Ex Nihilo.
How to recognise quality
A good fresh scent is still recognisable after an hour and does not turn soapy. With every bottle of 30 ml or more, we include a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance. We ship insured with GLS throughout Europe – free shipping to Austria and Germany from €200.
Frequently asked questions
Do fresh fragrances last less long?
Citrus notes evaporate faster than woods or resins. Extraits and scents with a strong base last considerably longer.
Can fresh fragrances be worn in winter?
Yes. Many fresh scents have a warm base and feel pleasantly clear in winter.
What is the difference between fresh and citrus?
Citrus is one kind of freshness. Fresh also covers aquatic, green and aromatic fragrances.
