Questions and answers
Green, resinous and herbal, with spicy, peppery warmth and a cheeky, slightly animalic undertone.
- The typical “skunk” note of cannabis comes from the same sulphur molecule that makes beer taste “skunky” in sunlight – and hops really are a relative: both belong to the hemp family.
Most of the plant’s aroma compounds are terpenes with woody, citrusy or floral facets; according to a 2021 study, however, the pungent note comes from 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol. Perfumers usually recreate cannabis as a green, resinous accord.
