- Only about 7 to 10 in 100 wild Aquilaria trees form the fragrant resin – top grades cost up to around 100,000 US dollars per kilo.
The resin forms as a defence response when the wood is wounded and infected by fungi such as Phaeoacremonium or Fusarium.
