What is tourmaline?

“Turamali” – that is the stone’s name in Sinhalese, the language of Sri Lanka. Tourmaline occurs in more colours than almost any other gemstone; its pink and green varieties are especially coveted. A curiosity: when warmed, it becomes electrically charged and attracts light particles such as ash. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, it is robust and ideal for everyday wear.
