What is topaz?

Topaz probably owes its name to Topazios, an island in the Red Sea. At 8 on the Mohs scale it is harder than quartz, making it a reliable companion. Two of its most beautiful shades of blue meet on this earring: the deep, inky London Blue and the bright sky blue of Swiss Blue.
