What is moonstone?

Moonstone is a feldspar with a special play of light called adularescence: a soft sheen seems to float just beneath the surface and moves with every motion. The Romans believed it was formed from moonlight. With a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, it is somewhat more delicate than quartz – treat it with a little care.
