Why do so many Sospiro fragrances smell fruity?

Because fruit is the perfect overture. In its own words, Sospiro builds its fragrances “like classical music, in movements”, and a fruity opening draws you in immediately before the heart and base take over. Citrus and berries are volatile notes: they shine brightest in the first minutes and then make room for flowers, woods and amber. According to Fragrantica, all three fragrances in this article are by Christian Provenzano, a perfumer with more than 50 years of experience. Sospiro describes his signature like this: bright openings that resolve into long, polished, musky-woody bases. Vibrato: why is it the Sospiro bestseller?

Because it works almost everywhere. Vibrato is fresh without being thin, and elegant without feeling stiff. With us it has been the best-selling Sospiro fragrance over the last twelve months, by a clear margin, both as a 100 ml bottle and as a 15 ml mini.

The official pyramid: grapefruit, bergamot, mandarin, ginger and rosemary at the top, magnolia, Damask rose and blond woods in the heart, and below vetiver, patchouli, Indian sandalwood, musk, amber and tonka. The rosemary is the little secret: it gives the citrus freshness a green, almost Mediterranean herbal edge that makes Vibrato more grown-up than a classic summer scent.

For whom: for anyone looking for a polished signature scent for the office, travel and weekends. When: spring to autumn, and in the office on mild winter days too. Erba Pura Magica: how is it different from Erba Pura?

The creaminess. The name Erba Pura has a history at Sospiro: according to Fragrantica, there was a Sospiro fragrance of that name in 2013, which has since been discontinued. The name later became famous mainly through Erba Pura by Xerjoff. Erba Pura Magica is Sospiro’s own revival from 2022, and the two are relatives, not twins.

According to Fragrantica, Erba Pura Magica opens with fruity notes, bergamot, lemon and jasmine, has balsamic notes and iris in the heart and musk, amber, caramel and cedar in the base. According to Xerjoff, its Erba Pura relies on lemon, Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian orange and Mediterranean fruit over amber, Madagascar vanilla and white musk. The difference on the skin: in Erba Pura Magica, iris and caramel create a powdery, creamy shimmer, which makes the fragrance rounder and a touch more elegant.

For whom: for people who love fruity fragrances but want a little more sophistication. When: all year round, especially at parties and dinners where a fragrance may stand out. Honestly: Erba Pura Magica has presence. For small offices with close desks, one or two sprays are enough.

Dolce Melodia: how sweet is it really?

Sweet like a dessert, but not sticky. Dolce Melodia, sweet melody in translation, is the youngest of the three and the warmest. The official pyramid: mandarin, orange and saffron at the top, rose, jasmine, gardenia, pear and blackcurrant in the heart, with sandalwood, vanilla and white musk in the base. The saffron is the trick that grounds the sweetness: it brings a leathery, warm, slightly honeyed spiciness that keeps vanilla and pear from smelling like candy.

Saffron is, by the way, the world’s most expensive spice for good reason. A single gram of dried threads takes around 150 crocus flowers, so roughly 150,000 flowers for a kilo, and every single one is picked by hand. That is why perfumery often works with saffron accords that recreate this scent.

For whom: for lovers of gourmand fragrances who like fruit and vanilla. When: autumn and winter, evenings, holidays.
