Why is there no natural lily of the valley oil?
Lily of the valley is a “mute flower”: neither distillation nor extraction yields a usable oil. Perfumers therefore reconstruct its scent from molecules such as hydroxycitronellal or Mayol.
What happened to Lilial and Lyral?
Neither is permitted in the EU any longer. Lyral (HICC), a strong contact allergen, has been off the market since August 2021. Lilial has been banned in cosmetics since 1 March 2022 because it was classified as toxic for reproduction (CLP category 1B).
Where does lily of the valley sit in a fragrance?
Lily of the valley is a typical heart note. It emerges once the first fresh impressions have faded and links the top and the base. The best test is on your own skin: with every bottle of 30 ml or more we include a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance.
