LEN Fragrance: Jelena von Olnhausen, 27 in Macao & the stories behind the scents

Some fragrances are like good conversations – they linger. And then there are fragrances like LEN Fragrance: a secret glance over the rim of your glass at a dinner in Paris. Intense. Personal. Never trivial.

In short
  • LEN Fragrance is a French niche house founded by Jelena von Olnhausen, based in Levallois-Perret near Paris.
  • Every scent tells a "private story" – from the roulette table in Macao to a pearl diver in the Gulf.
  • The extraits are highly concentrated: around 23–28 % perfume oil.
  • At 4D OUTFITTERS you will find the Histoire Privée and LEN Exclusif lines – online and in our boutique in Bregenz.

I'm PERFUME.GIO – and when I wear a fragrance, it's not to please, it's to tell a story. LEN gave me several: stories of desert nights, high stakes at the casino and love letters in liquid form – preserved in glass, crowned with a key.

Sounds like a film? That's exactly what LEN is: big-screen cinema for your nose.

Jelena von Olnhausen and the legend of 1812

The woman behind LEN Fragrance is Jelena von Olnhausen. The brand tells its origins as a family story: according to the brand's legend, a French perfumer named François de La Lènes created his first scents around 1812 and dedicated them to a Russian countess – Jelena's great-grandmother. The formulas are said to have been kept in the family and inspired today's extraits. LEN in its current form was founded in 2018.

What you find in the bottle is very real: extraits with around 23–28 % perfume oil, which puts LEN among the most concentrated fragrances on the market. The clear, straight-lined bottle wears a gold-decorated label, the cap closes magnetically, and the brand's emblem is an antique key bow. Michel Almairac, one of France's most renowned perfumers, has worked on several of the compositions.

Histoire Privée: every bottle a scene

I, PERFUME.GIO, love this brand for the way it combines cultures, emotions and the codes of the luxury world in a few drops. The Histoire Privée line is its heart:

  • Crystal Bomb – "the perfume of a princess": in the Orient everything is bright and clear, only love remains a secret. Fruity-oriental, made for the big stage.
  • Jeux Dangereux – Jelena von Olnhausen's very personal memory of a childhood summer between a Milanese palazzo and the family yacht on the Mediterranean.
  • 27 in Macao – one round of roulette at the Casino Lisboa, the lucky number 27 and a night you never forget.
  • She & Male, Try to Follow Me and Last Call to Ibiza – encounters, seduction and summer nights. Each one like a scene from a film: passionate, elegant, sometimes risky.

LEN Exclusif: even more freedom

The exclusive line goes a step further. Say Sakura tells the legend of Sakura and Yohiro, pairing maraschino cherry, champagne and amaretto with saffron, iris, incense and vanilla. Nasra pays tribute to the most beautiful woman of the Gulf and the pearl diver who risked everything for her. Amour Brut plays with a love story in the style of a spy film – raw masculinity and tender melancholy. Then there are Blind for Love and Darling Bogota, which captures the flair of Latin American nights.

27 in Macao: glamour between casino and Dubai

27 in Macao is the scent through which many people discover LEN. Mandarin, cardamom, lychee, black pepper and coffee open it, peony and ginger form the heart, and musk, vetiver, ambergris and peach make up the base – a composition that fits like a tailored tuxedo. Jeremy Fragrance is also said to have counted it among the most extravagant scents you can wear in his videos.

And Dubai? Where glamour is everyday life, a scent like this feels right at home: European refinement with oriental depth. If that world appeals to you, take a look at OmanLuxury too.

Curiosities about LEN

Things you probably didn't know

  1. The devil's game

Add up all the numbers on a roulette wheel from 0 to 36 and you get exactly 666. That's why roulette is nicknamed "the devil's game" – a fitting detail for a scent set at the roulette table.

  2. Macao beats Las Vegas

Macao is the only place in China where casinos are legal. In 2006 its gambling revenue overtook that of the famous Las Vegas Strip for the first time.

  3. The casino from the story

The Casino Lisboa, where the story of 27 in Macao is set, really exists: it opened in 1970, built by Stanley Ho and partners – complete with a round, twelve-storey hotel tower.

  4. The end of the pearl divers

The Gulf pearl divers who inspired Nasra lost their trade to Japan: from 1916 Mikimoto's cultured pearls reached the market at up to a tenth of the price. By the early 1950s traditional pearling in the Gulf had all but disappeared.

  5. A perfumer with cult status

Michel Almairac, who worked on LEN scents such as Privarot, also created classics like Joop! Homme (1989) and Gucci Rush (1999).

Why PERFUME.GIO loves LEN

LEN stands for high-end craftsmanship, storytelling, longevity and bold creativity. These scents aren't followers – they're statements, for people who want more than the mainstream. Crystal Bomb for the big stage, Jeux Dangereux for moments of closeness, 27 in Macao for stylish social appearances.

My tip: with extraits this concentrated, one or two sprays are enough. How to apply perfume properly is in my 10 tips – and if you're feeling bold, try LEN in a layering.
