The Best Floral Fragrances by Parfums de Marly: Rose, Musk, Neroli

A rose that tastes of lychee, a white shirt in the sunlight and a royal favourite in an orange grove. That is how different the three floral fragrances by Parfums de Marly sound that are especially popular with us and that you can order right away. We looked at our sales figures, took the scent pyramids apart and reveal which flower suits which moment. Which one is yours?

In short
  • Delina (2017): Damascena rose with lychee, rhubarb and cashmeran. The house's most famous rose, fruity, radiant, confident.
  • Valaya (2023): white peach, orange blossom and white musk. The cleanest of the three, like fresh laundry on warm skin.
  • Athénaïs (2026): neroli, yuzu, orange blossom, jasmine and vanilla. The sunniest of the three, brand new to the house.
  • What they share: a bright, fruity-citrus opening, a floral heart and a soft, creamy base.

Why are Parfums de Marly's women's fragrances so popular?

Because they achieve something harder than it sounds: they are instantly understandable and yet never banal. Parfums de Marly deliberately divides its collection into women's and men's fragrances, and the women's line has a clear signature. A fruity, luminous opening draws you in, a big blossom sits at the heart, and underneath lies a soft base of musk, vanilla or woods that stays on the skin for a long time. Then there are the unmistakable bottles with relief and tassel, which look like a small piece of jewellery on any dresser.

Where the courtly glamour comes from, we tell in our portrait of Parfums de Marly. Here the question is which flower you should wear.

Delina: why does this rose smell of lychee?

Delina by Parfums de Marly, bottle

Delina was launched in 2017 and, according to Fragrantica, composed by Quentin Bisch. The idea: a classic rose, but so modern, juicy and bright that nobody thinks of grandmother's dresser. The trick lies in the opening. According to Parfums de Marly, Delina opens with bergamot, lychee and rhubarb. The lychee brings a sweet, watery fruit, the rhubarb a slightly tart, almost crisp freshness. Only then does the Damascena rose bloom, accompanied by a hint of nutmeg.

In the base, cashmeran, musk and vetiver create a velvety, almost cosy finish. Cashmeran is a musky-woody material that feels like a cashmere scarf, hence the name. On Fragrantica the leading accords are rose, floral and fruity, and with more than 14,000 votes the rating stands at 3.95 out of 5. Fans praise its projection, longevity and the compliments it earns. Criticism: some find the rhubarb opening too sharp or the rose too present. Our tip: Delina unfolds most beautifully on warm skin, so better on the wrist than on the scarf.

Did you know?

According to Parfums de Marly, around 4,000 kilograms of Damascena roses are needed for a single litre of rose essence. So wearing Delina means wearing quite a lot of garden.

Valaya: what does a white shirt smell like?

Valaya by Parfums de Marly, bottle

Valaya was released in 2023, also by Quentin Bisch according to Fragrantica, and is Delina's counterpart: white instead of pink, skin instead of rose garden. Parfums de Marly describes the scent as a delicate veil of white fabric and soft light, inspired by the feeling of a white shirt on the skin. The opening is bright: bergamot, mandarin and white peach. Orange blossom and white flowers sit at the heart, with white musk, vanilla, vetiver and Akigalawood in the base.

Akigalawood is a peppery-woody material derived from patchouli that gives Valaya a fine, dry backbone. How it is made, we explain in our ingredient glossary entry on Akigalawood. And why the orange blossom shines so brightly here, you can read in Neroli or orange blossom?. On Fragrantica the leading accords are musky, citrus and white floral, and the rating is 3.89 out of 5 from more than 6,700 votes. Fans love its clean, elegant character that works at the office too. If the opening feels a little sharp at first, wait ten minutes: then Valaya turns creamy and soft.

Athénaïs: what makes the new fragrance so sunny?

Athénaïs by Parfums de Marly, bottle

Athénaïs is the newest arrival, released in 2026, and named after Madame de Montespan, who called herself Athénaïs and shaped the court as the favourite of Louis XIV. According to Fragrantica, the brand describes the scent as new territory for the house, beyond Delina and Valaya. The opening is a splash of sunshine: neroli, bergamot and yuzu. Orange blossom and jasmine bloom in the heart, while tonka bean, vanilla and Ambrox warm the base.

The result is a bright, white-floral scent with creamy warmth, ideal for anyone who finds Delina too rosy and Valaya too clean. On Fragrantica the leading accords are white floral, citrus and vanilla, and with almost 1,000 votes the rating stands at 3.87 out of 5. Fans praise the radiant citrus note and the creamy orange blossom. Because Athénaïs is so new, there are fewer votes, and some wish for a little more longevity. Our tip: spray on skin and clothing, and the sunshine lasts longer.

And if it can be even creamier?

Then the Exclusif versions are worth a look. According to the brand, Delina Exclusif wraps the rose in pear, incense and vanilla, making it feel more like an evening scent. Valaya Exclusif, which is actually the house's best-selling floral with us, swaps the peach for almond and turns more powdery. You will find the direct comparisons in Delina or Delina Exclusif? and Valaya or Valaya Exclusif?. If you love sweetness, try Oriana with orange blossom, marshmallow and praline.

Curiosities from the flower garden of Marly

What lies behind the three blossoms

  1. A name with history

Madame de Montespan, namesake of Athénaïs, was the most influential favourite of Louis XIV, for whom the Château de Marly was also built.

  2. The same perfumer twice

According to Fragrantica, Delina and Valaya were both created by Quentin Bisch, even though they smell like opposites.

  3. Rhubarb in the rose garden

The rhubarb in Delina is no accident: its tart freshness makes the rose younger and keeps it from feeling heavy.

  4. Cashmere for the nose

Cashmeran in Delina owes its name to the way it feels like soft cashmere. Chemically it has nothing to do with cashmere.

  5. The same blossom, two faces

Valaya and Athénaïs both carry orange blossom in their heart. In Valaya it feels clean and bright, in Athénaïs sunny and creamy.
