Fragrance note
Lime Perfumes
Lime opens a fragrance with a zesty, green and tart sparkle – sharper and fresher than lemon. The oil is cold-pressed from the peel or distilled from the whole fruit and almost always sits in the top notes. Here you will find every perfume with lime in its pyramid.

Myth or truth?
Statement 1
Lime oil is always pressed from the peel.
Myth. Distilled oil is the usual form: crushed fruit is heated with steam together with its juice. Cold-pressed peel oil exists too, but it is less common.
Statement 2
Lime juice on the skin can lead to skin reactions in sunlight.
True. Limes contain furocoumarins, which make the skin sensitive to light. Distilled lime oil, by contrast, is not considered phototoxic.
Statement 3
Distilled and cold-pressed lime oil smell the same.
Myth. During distillation the hot, acidic juice changes the oil; terpineol, among others, is formed. The two oils smell noticeably different.

How is lime oil for perfume obtained?
Mostly by distillation: the fruit is crushed, juice and oil are heated together with steam, and the oil then separates. There is also cold-pressed oil from the peel, which smells different.
What is the difference between Key lime and Persian lime?
Lime oil in perfume usually comes from the Mexican or Key lime (Citrus aurantifolia). The Persian lime (Citrus latifolia) is a cross between this lime and the lemon; oil is obtained from it too, often by cold pressing.
How long does lime last on the skin?
Lime is a typical top note and fades comparatively quickly, as its main constituent, limonene, is highly volatile. It stays noticeable for longer when warmer notes support it. The best test is on your own skin: with every bottle of 30 ml or more we include a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance.
