What is the difference between neroli and petitgrain?
Both oils come from the bitter orange, but from different parts of the tree. Neroli is distilled from the blossoms, petitgrain from the leaves and twigs. That is why they smell different: neroli more floral, petitgrain greener and more bitter.
How is neroli oil obtained?
By steam distillation. The freshly picked flowers go into the still on the same day so that their scent is preserved. The yield is low: around one tonne of blossoms gives about 1 kg of oil.
Is neroli a top note or a heart note?
It can be both. With its bright, citrusy opening, neroli brings freshness to the top note; in the heart it blends with white flowers. The best test is on your own skin: with every bottle of 30 ml or more we include a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance.
