Fragrance note
Lemon Perfumes
Lemon gives a fragrance a bright, zesty-tart opening that feels instantly fresh and clear. The oil is cold-pressed from the peel; as a top note it fades quickly and sets the stage for flowers, herbs or woods. Here you will find every perfume with lemon in its pyramid.

Knowledge to share
Myth or truth?
Statement 1
The typical lemon scent comes from limonene.
Myth. Limonene is the main constituent, but the typical lemon tone comes from citral – even though it makes up only 2 to 5 % of the oil.
Statement 2
Lemon oil for perfume comes from the peel, not the juice.
True. The oil sits in glands in the peel and is obtained there by cold pressing.
Statement 3
Every lemon oil is equally light-sensitive.
Myth. Cold-pressed oil is phototoxic because of its furocoumarins; distilled or furocoumarin-free lemon oil is not considered phototoxic.

How is lemon oil for perfume obtained?
Mostly by cold pressing the fresh peel: the oil glands are opened mechanically, without any heat. This preserves the lively, peely character. Steam-distilled lemon oil also exists, but it smells softer.
Why is the use of lemon oil in perfume limited?
Cold-pressed lemon oil contains furocoumarins, which can cause skin reactions in combination with sunlight. IFRA therefore restricts it in products that stay on the skin. Distilled or furocoumarin-free lemon oil is not considered phototoxic.
How long does lemon last on the skin?
Lemon is a typical top note and fades comparatively quickly. Its freshness stays noticeable for longer when musk, woods or vetiver support it. The best test is on your own skin: with every bottle of 30 ml or more we include a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance.
